Texas Longhorns have more top 2027 draft prospects than any other team

The Texas Longhorns are to college football what England is to international men’s soccer. The heavy burden of extreme media expectations is always there, the talent level is consistently high enough to win it all, but for some reason, well, it just never comes together. Texas and England are also similar in that
A.) many seem to think that they pretty much invented their respective game
B.) they have special glory in their history, but that was actually a long time ago.
We’re one week into the World Cup, and the state of Texas is hosting in not one, but two venues. AT&T Stadium even hosted England’s opener, just adding to this synergy even more. When 2027 college football talking season gets here (we’re still about a month out from that), Texas will be everyone’s team to beat.
The hype train will fully leave the station, come mid-July, thanks to all the top tier NFL Draft talent they possess. No other school boasts as many elite, top ten to top 15 level 2027 draft prospects as Texas does, and the only other team that even comes close is Ohio State.
Let’s take a look at the top prospects on the Longhorns roster right now.
Arch Manning, QB
The most hyped up high school recruit in history (arguably) is about to become the most talked about college player ever (arguably). You obviously remember all the added publicity that he received last season. Expect all that, and possibly more, this year.
Manning could easily be the #1 overall pick in 2027.
Colin Simmons, Edge
Edge rushers are always in high demand in today’s NFL, and Simmons might have the highest evaluation of any single prospect at the position. He’s got both a tremendous burst and a great polish to his game. Simmons could easily be a top five pick.
Cam Coleman, WR
This is a class with Ohio State’s Jeremiah Smith, who’s a generational player at the position, so Coleman won’t be the first wideout off the boards. But he might be the second receiver picked, as he’s truly elite going over the top.
Vertically, and in the intermediate routes, he’s about as good as it gets. He still needs to work on the underneath stuff a bit though.
Trevor Goosby, OT
Manning’s blind side protector is potentially both the top pass protector and run blocker in this class. At six-foot-seven and 312 pounds, some NFL personnel might want him to add more more weight to his functional length.
His athleticism is top notch, however, and he might be the first tackle off the boards.
