Samson Okunlola and Matthew McCoy are often the subject of comparisons amongst Miami Hurricanes fans. The two players shared time in 2025 at the left guard position and are both vying for starting time in ‘26. With all five spots up for grabs on the ‘Canes OL these two massive men could find themselves starting at guard or tackle this season.

Okunlola, a former five-star OT prospect out of high school, has played in 32 games over three seasons in Coral Gables. The six-foot-six, 330 pound G/T has failed to live up to his five-star hype thus far but has shown flashes of brilliance at times for the ‘Canes and OL coach AlexMirabal.

McCoy was a three-star prep prospect out of Creekside HS in St. Augustine, FL. Also six-foot-six and 330 pounds, McCoy has dabbled as a tight end, tackle, and guard for the ‘Canes. McCoy has played in 43 games as a Hurricane with 15 starts at LG in ‘25.

The Hurricanes will have to figure out who plays better against the edge rush and can live on an island at OT, against which of the two needs to play inside and have the more likely help coming from RB’s and the center position.

Let’s take a look at the duo against the Indiana Hoosiers in the CFB Playoff National Championship Game:
