The Pittsburgh Pirates continued their recent slump on Tuesday, getting routed 12-3 by the Los Angeles Dodgers at PNC Park.
It was the Pirates’ fourth straight loss and fifth in their last six games. The 12 runs allowed were a season high for Pittsburgh, while the nine-run margin of defeat matched its largest of the year.
In other words, it was the Pirates’ worst loss of the season, especially considering that Paul Skenes started and pitched well, delivering a quality start. However, Pittsburgh’s bullpen promptly surrendered 10 runs in the seventh inning after he finished the sixth, immediately squandering his gem and turning a 2-2 battle into a blowout.

Rather than posting the score after the game, the Pirates’ X account shared the following recap: “FINAL: We’ll spare you the details.”
That’s because the details weren’t pretty. Pittsburgh managed just five hits, struck out 12 times and also committed a pair of costly errors, contributing to the Dodgers’ big inning.
The Pirates will try to bounce back on Wednesday and snap their losing streak behind Jared Jones. That won’t be easy, however, as he’s going up against NL Cy Young candidate Shohei Ohtani.
