Panthers HC Dave Canales explains why top players were held out of Wednesday's minicamp

Carolina Panthers head coach Dave Canales told reporters that he “ordered up another hot one” for his players at mandatory minicamp on Wednesday. But not everyone was necessarily served.

This afternoon’s practice in Charlotte did not feature a handful of the team’s top standouts—including wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan, right tackle Taylor Moton and cornerback Jaycee Horn. Canales was asked why they did not suit up.

“Yeah, just a part of the plan was just to get them two out of three really good days,” he stated. “Keep their high speed up, when they’re out there—and just be smart about that. So, that was kinda the plan all along. We expect them to be back out there tomorrow.”

McMillan, who is currently nursing a minor foot injury, also did not participate in team drills during the opening session. Canales seemed positive about his outlook yesterday, stating that the second-year pass catcher is “looking great” despite the small setback.

Moton and Horn, meanwhile, are likely resting up on regular ol’ vet days. The former is entering his 10th NFL season and the latter, of course, has dealt with numerous injuries over his five-year career.
