Oregon Hoopla to tip off week full of basketball on Salem's streets

The Oregon Hoopla is back on the streets of Salem surrounding the Oregon State Capitol for the 27th edition of Oregon’s largest basketball festival.

Athletes of all ages gather to compete in 1-on-1, 2-on-2 and 3-on-3 outdoor basketball tournaments on pop-up courts in the heart of Salem. Oregon Hoopla brings food, music, basketball and a community-oriented event to the city; typically drawing roughly 50,000 visitors throughout the week.

Salem’s premier summer basketball event is one of the largest street 3-on-3 basketball tournament in the nation with an estimated 1,100 teams across all ages and skill levels.

Oregon Specialty Group Hoopla XXVII presented by Toyota & Dutch Bros Coffee occupies several streets in and around the Oregon State Capitol, resulting in road closures and traffic abnormalities that will extend from July 21 to July 26.

Before the main-event 3-on-3 tournament Saturday, July 25, Oregon Hoopla engages with the local community to further develop the connection and roots Salem has with basketball.

Training clinics across two days for any and all grade school-aged youth in Salem spark a week’s worth of basketball activities that include a middle school and high school clinic July 23 and a free kids’ clinic July 24. Hoopla collaborates with several local businesses and the Salem YMCA to put on the events.

Competitions involving 3-point, 2-ball and free-throw contests enhance the week of hoops and provide competitors of all ages with the opportunity to win awards and prizes outside of the typical head-to-head basketball.

Hoopla’s renowned 3-on-3 is preceded by 1-on-1 and 2-on-2 tournaments on Thursday and Friday.

Athletes play during the Oregon Hoopla 2x2 invitational tournament on State Street on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, in Salem, Ore.
