Ohio State shares behind-the-scenes video of creating new uniforms

By now, you know that the Ohio State football program has reintroduced gray sleeves on five different uniform combinations. It’s something fans have been clamouring for years to happen, and now it’s reality.

But as simple as these things might seem to be, there’s a lot that can go on behind the scenes with changing things in a big-time college football program, even something that seems as simple as a uniform redesign. To that end, the Ohio State football creative team shared a behind-the-scenes look at how the uniforms came to life, and you might be surprised to know that the finished product was more than 18 months in the making.

It’s a pretty interesting video that’s more than six minutes long, and some folks who wouldn’t normally be recognized for all the work they put into it get a little spot in the limelight, led by Joe Gemma, Assistant Director of Design.

From the original intention of adding the gray sleeves to the all-black “Tunnel Vision” uniforms, to the decision to bring the gray sleeves into the new age with a metallic look onto all of the jerseys including the traditional home and away, all-white “Sub Zeroes” and all-red “Scarlet Rush” versions, you can get a peek behind the curtain thanks to the video the creative team dropped this week.

We aren’t quite sure which jerseys will be worn in which games in 2026, but there’s a good chance we’ll see them all at some point this fall, and we’ll get a look at the upgraded jerseys for the first time when Ohio State opens the season vs. Ball State on Saturday, Sept. 5.
