A change of scenery is sometimes all a guy needs to put together the career that most expected him to have in Major League Baseball.

Former Boston Red Sox youngster Marcelo Mayer seemed to be the perfect candidate for a situation like that. Mayer, who has unfortunately dealt with some injuries throughout his young career, never really put it together up in Boston.

At the same time, this is a young kid who is truly only getting his career started. Mayer now has an opportunity with the San Francisco Giants, and he’s very excited for that, mainly getting back to the West Coast.

“I’m just super excited for the opportunity that I have here,” said Mayer, per The Athletic. “Obviously, being back on the West Coast, being comfortable, close to family, I’m just super excited. The guys have welcomed me with open arms. I’m excited to get going.”

There weren’t any problems with Mayer in Boston, and it seems like his relationship with the organization was more than fine. He has yet to say that something went wrong, but it was more that the Red Sox were trying to win a World Series at the moment and he wasn’t exactly helping with that.

Still, moving on from a player many considered arguably the top prospect in Major League Baseball just a few years ago for a left-handed reliever who isn’t a closer does pose the question of what really went on behind the scenes.

Regardless, the Red Sox can’t worry about that too much now, and the same can be said for Mayer, who will have a chance to figure some things out at the highest level in his home state.
