LOCAL ROUNDUP: Rosters set for East-West All-Star Games

GREENSBORO — The rosters have been set for the NCCA East-West All-Star Games later this month in High Point and Greensboro.

In basketball, T.W. Andrews’ Sam King and Oak Grove’s Kalin Favreau will suit up for the West girls, while Andrews coach John Shearin will assist Highlands’ Brett Lamb. High Point Central’s Josiah Hill will join the West boys.

The game will be Monday, July 20, at the Greensboro Complex’s Novant Health Fieldhouse. The girls will play at 6:30 p.m., followed by the boys at 8.

In soccer, Ledford’s Maggie Eccard and Oak Grove’s Katherine Lockamy will play for the West girls. The soccer matches will be played at Truist Point for the first time. The girls will play at Tuesday, July 21, at 6:30 p.m., followed by the boys at 8:30.

WIGGINS TRADED TO ATLANTA

OKLAHOMA CITY – Aaron Wiggins – a former Wesleyan Christian standout – has been traded from the Oklahoma City Thunder to the Atlanta Hawks.

Wiggins, who played at Maryland and was drafted in the second round of the 2021 NBA Draft, spent five seasons in Oklahoma City – making key contributions during the Thunder’s NBA championship run in 2025.

He averaged 9.4 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 65 games during the 2025-26 season in which Oklahoma City went 64-18 and reached the Western Conference finals.

The Thunder traded Wiggins to the Hawks for two future second-round picks in 2030 and 2032.

ROCKERS WIN AGAIN AT STATEN ISLAND

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The High Point Rockers crushed the Staten Island FerryHawks 9-5 in Atlantic League baseball Thursday at SIUH Community Park for their first back-to-back wins of the second half.

Ivan Melendez had two hits, including a double, and three RBIs for the Rockers (31-38 overall, 2-4 second half). Luke Napleton homered, doubled and drove in two, while Nick Longhi also homered and drove in three.

High Point scored the first eight runs of the game – one in the first, four in the third and four in the fourth – and added a run in the seventh.

David Hess earned the win, striking out five in six innings. Daniel Blair added two perfect innings, striking out three, and Alec Barger finished it off with a scoreless ninth.

The teams continue their six-game series through Sunday. The Rockers will return home next week with a six-game homestand against the Hagerstown Flying Boxcars.

HITOMS WIN BIG AT MARTINSVILLE

MARTINSVILLE, Va. – The High Point-Thomasville HiToms routed the Martinsville Mustangs 14-3 in seven innings Thursday in Coastal Plain League baseball at Martinsville.

Drew Blalock had three hits, including a double and a home run, and four RBIs for the HiToms (18-11), who led 8-0 in the middle of the fourth and tacked on six runs in their final two at-bats. Blaize Johnson and Ryan Allen each had two hits and two RBIs.

Josh Wise got the pitching win, striking out one in three innings of middle relief.

ROCKERS’ COTTER SIGNS WITH REDS

HIGH POINT – Cam Cotter, a right-handed pitcher who has pitched with the High Point Rockers since 2022, has signed a contract with the Cincinnati Reds organization. He has reported to the Reds’ Class AA team in Chattanooga where he and former Rocker pitcher Ben Wereski will be reunited as teammates.

A native of Summerfield who pitched at Northern Guilford and N.C. State, Cotter initially joined the Rockers in 2022. Cotter earned his first professional contract with the Rockers and appeared in 38 games over his four seasons, going 1-2 with one save and a 1.99 ERA.

In 2023, Cotter’s contract was purchased by the San Francisco Giants and he pitched at three different levels of the organization including Class AAA Sacramento in 2024. He returned to the Rockers in 2025 and had made one appearance in High Point this season.

There are now 59 former Rockers who have moved onto a Major League-affiliated club or international league since the team was founded in 2019. Ten players who have appeared for the Rockers this season have signed with affiliated or international teams.
