Liam Coen evaluates Trevor Lawrence's performance in Jaguars minicamp

The Jacksonville Jaguars completed their third and final minicamp practice on Thursday, and as Liam Coen looked back on Trevor Lawrence’s performance throughout the offseason programs, he’s been quite pleased with what he’s seen from his quarterback.
“I don’t know how many picks he actually threw, but I gotta believe it was under five throughout all of OTAs and minicamp,” Coen said after Thursday’s practice. “So I think while trying to challenge himself and our receivers more with down the field passing, challenging him to try new things of concepts, and fit some throws into maybe windows you would otherwise take a checkdown in, while balancing that, I thought he did a really nice job of taking care of the football, running the whole operation, managing the protections, and some of the concepts on the field. I’m pleased with Trevor’s spring. Absolutely.”
A key element behind a Year 2 jump for Lawrence under Coen can be the continuity of being in the same system for a second offseason. Rather than learning a new scheme as he did a year ago. Lawrence is now able to build upon what’s been established.
Beyond Lawrence’s ability to take care of the football in these practices, Coen was also impressed with the offensive operation pre-snap. When the Jaguars‘ offense made their second-half surge in 2025, Lawrence’s command of the huddle and at the line of scrimmage, specifically getting the offense into favorable looks, was a big part of that success. And from the sounds of it, Lawrence has picked up where he left off.
One area where Coen did want to see continued growth from Lawrence was in his chemistry with his wideouts and in his willingness to push the ball downfield. By all accounts, Lawrence was very willing to take those downfield shots when available and also willing to fit the ball into a tight window, and the fact that his interception total this offseason remained low tells us that his chemistry with his receivers is in a good place and that he is delivering the ball accurately.
In his first season under Coen, Lawrence ranked sixth in the NFL in passing yards and fifth in passing touchdowns. He also was an MVP finalist with the Jaguars’ offense finishing the regular season as one of the most productive in football over that final eight-game stretch.
