Lazio are reportedly considering signing two defenders this summer, with Sergi Dominguez and Diego Coppola deemed the main targets.

Lazio on the Cusp of Selling Alessio Romagnoli & Mario Gila

The Biancocelesti are preparing to part ways with Alessio Romagnoli, who has confirmed his departure. The experienced Italian defender will sign for Al-Sadd, while his defensive partner Mario Gila could be set to join AC Milan, who are the new frontrunners in the race for his services.

Sergi Dominguez is Lazio’s Top Choice

According to Il Corriere dello Sport, Lazio have handpicked Dominguez, considering him the ideal profile to replace his compatriot Gila. The 21-year-old is a Barcelona academy product who was sold to Dinamo Zagreb last summer. The youngster immediately established himself as a key player for the Croatian champions, helping them win the domestic double in his first season.

The Roman newspaper believes Dominguez would cost Lazio at least €10 million. On the other hand, La Gazzetta dello Sport (via La Lazio Siamo Noi) believes the Spaniard could be available for €7-8 million.

Lazio Could Also Sign Diego Coppola

Interestingly, the pink newspaper claims that the Italian capital side is open to signing two centre-backs rather than one, thus replacing both Gila and Romagnoli. The source identifies Diego Coppola as the second potential acquisition alongside Dominguez.

The 22-year-old is a Hellas Verona youth product who completed a £10 million switch to Brighton last summer, but struggled for playing time in England. The Italian international spent the second half of the season on loan at Paris FC, where he managed to impress.

Brighton Open to Loaning Coppola

The good news for Lazio is that Brighton are reportedly willing to consider an initial loan with an option to buy at the end of the season. Gennaro Gattuso is familiar with the player, having called him up for international duty during his ill-fated spell with the Azzurri.

Lazio’s current defensive options are Oliver Provstgaard, who could be promoted to a starting role following Romagnoli’s exit, as well as the experienced Patric and Samuel Gigot, who will add depth to the department.
