Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Garrett Crochet suffered an injury setback recently as he attempts to return to action more than one month after landing on the injured list due to left shoulder inflammation.
Crochet said Sunday that he believed the setback (lat tightness) was “very minor” and discussed his situation further on Tuesday.
“Garrett Crochet said he underwent his MRI today but was awaiting results. He said he feels tightness, not pain, and is waiting to hear whether he can resume throwing. Asked how close he was to a return before the lat injury, he said: ‘Not particularly close,’ given that he had only faced hitters 1x,” Alex Speier of the Boston Globe posted on Bluesky.
The 2025 AL Cy Young runner-up had been scheduled to throw live batting practice on Tuesday prior to Sunday’s news.
Crochet was 3-3 with a 6.30 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 37 strikeouts in 30 innings (six starts) before landing on the IL.
