John Cena is arguably the biggest name and star to ever emerge from WWE but he’s keen to ensure he’s not always remembered.

Cena was the face of WWE for over two decades and after having his retirement match earlier this year, the company is now looking for new stars to take things forward.

There is no mad rush given the likes of Roman Reigns and CM Punk remain huge draws. But as with any period in the company’s history, things need to evolve.

Indeed, according to Cena himself, the evolution and creation of new stars is exactly why he doesn’t want to be remembered.

John Cena admits he hopes WWE fans forget about him in favour of new stars

Cena will be mentioned for years and decades to come but he is deadly serious when he assesses both his legacy and impact on the business.

He is happy with what he’s contributed and has no interest in a comeback match anytime soon.

Furthermore, Cena is very much hoping his name disappears over time.

“My goal for my stay in the business is to leave it better than I found it-and my résumé is a byproduct of that. I know none of us live forever. Nobody remembers anything,” Cena told The Good House Mag.

“People forget about me. So, my hope for the future is that people forget about me. If [the new WWE] stars have enough gravity, have enough relevance, they should be the ones influencing the audience, the people, in the arena.

“That is my hope, amazingly, that people forget.”

As Cena continues his journey into the movie business and seems to be growing as a star by the year, he is more likely to be remembered for that element of his career in later years.

In terms of those who can what Cena has been for the WWE, the likes of Trick Williams, Bron Breakker and Carmelo Hayes might well pick up the baton, while NXT will continue to develop talents like Oba Femi and more to keep things ticking over.
