Caitlin Clark put together one of the greatest performances in WNBA history on Friday night with a 45-point outing against the Seattle Storm. But the Indiana Fever superstar wasn’t interested in celebrating individual milestones after the final buzzer.

Instead, Clark made it clear that her focus remains on helping the Fever become the best team in the league.

Caitlin Clark More Focused on Team Goals Than Personal Milestones

The Fever defeated the Storm 110-107 as Clark rewrote the record books at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The superstar guard finished with 45 points, 10 assists, 4 steals, and shot 11-for-18 from the field, including 6-for-10 from 3-point range.

Even more impressive, she did it in just 29 minutes while still playing under a minutes restriction because of her lingering back issue.

The performance checked off one milestone after another. Clark became the first player in WNBA history to record a 40-point, 10-assist game. She also broke Kelsey Mitchell’s franchise record of 38 points to set a new Fever single-game scoring mark.

She also became the fastest player in league history to reach 200 career triples, needing just 74 games.

Yet none of those accomplishments were what Clark wanted to talk about postgame. Asked what scoring the most points in the Fever’s history meant to her, the former Rookie of the Year quickly shifted the focus back to the team.

“I mean, it’s cool. I don’t really care. I know what I’m capable of, and I know what this team is capable of. And it’s my job to help us win and be the best team in the WNBA. And I don’t think we’re there yet. So it’s my responsibility to help us get there. So we’ll keep working.”

Clark’s message carried weight. Despite her record-breaking performance, the Fever still hasn’t accomplished its ultimate goal. Since the superstar guard arrived in Indiana, the franchise has reached the playoffs twice but is still searching for its first WNBA championship under Clark.

Now in her third season, Clark appears focused on something much bigger than individual accolades: leading the Fever to a title.

During the game, the Fever found themselves in a tough spot after falling behind 96-88 with 5:23 left in the fourth quarter. Clark answered with a fadeaway jumper to start the comeback, then delivered the game’s biggest shot.

With the score tied at 102-102 in the final minute, she knocked down a step-back 3-pointer to put the Fever back in front for good.

Meanwhile, Kelsey Mitchell added 30 points as the Fever’s star backcourt combined for 75 points in the thrilling victory. The win improved the Fever to 15-10 on the season and marked their third victory in the last five games.

Indiana won’t have much time to enjoy it, though, with a matchup against the New York Liberty waiting on Saturday, July 18.
