Former UFC title challenger Irene Aldana retires

Former UFC title challenger Irene Aldana is hanging up the gloves.

Not having fought in nearly two years, Aldana (15-8 MMA, 8-6 UFC) was officially removed from the UFC roster Friday after previously having notified the promotion of her plans to walk away from competition.

A person with knowledge of her decision confirmed it to MMA Junkie after an initial reports by ESPN Deportes and MMA Fighting.

Aldana, 38, retires as one of Mexico’s most prominent female mixed martial artists to date. She made her UFC debut in December 2016 after a run in Invicta. She’d fight 14 times for the promotion, most notably against Amanda Nunes for the women’s bantamweight title in June 2023. Aldana lost by unanimous decision, but again showed her heart – something that she was known for throughout her career.

She compiled an 8-6 record in the UFC. She had not competed since a loss to Norma Dumont in September 2024, during which she was badly cut up.

Notable victories included Ketlen Vieira, Bethe Correia, Yana Santos, and her UFC 296 Fight of the Night thriller vs. Karol Rosa. Aldana won five performance bonuses in her 14 UFC fights.
