Alysa Liu, who won over the hearts of fans and judges during the 2026 Winter Olympics, is continuing to make waves with her unique fashion. During the 2026 ESPYs on July 15, the two-time Olympic gold medalist wore a black backless lace gown by Nicholas Oakwell Couture that showed off an epic tattoo that fans couldn’t get enough of.
While speaking to People the following night at the TIME100 Sports Gala, Liu shared that while fans might not have been aware of her tattoo, it wasn’t a secret. She shared that she got the matching tattoo with her best friend when she was 18.
“There’s, like, little things here and there that are really personal to us in the design,” she said.

During her Olympics run, Liu always took the spotlight on and off the ice. From her halo hair to her frenulum piercing, it’s no shock that her tattoo has also garnered interest.

During Milano Cortina 2026, Liu walked away with two gold medals in women’s singles and the team event. She made history as the first American woman to win an Olympic gold medal in women’s single figure skating in 24 years.
Liu’s appearance at the TIME100 Sports Gala follows her epic night at the 2026 ESPYs on Wednesday, July 15. She won the Breakthrough Athlete award. Other nominees in that category included Patriots quarterback Drake Maye, Las Vegas rookie Fernando Mendoza, and San Jose Sharks player Macklin Celebrini.
“First of all, I’m really honored to be given this award,” Liu began her speech. “I’ve been in my sport since I was 5 years old and I had some really rough times in it, I took two years off. So, for me, this really feels like I broke through in my own way, for myself, and for my sport. I love being an athlete, I couldn’t have done it without my team.”
