Tommy Castellanos’ college career might not be over.
The former Florida State Seminoles quarterback is reportedly “open” to returning to college football now that he has another year of eligibility, according to On3’s Pete Nakos. While he has only played quarterback, he attended two NFL minicamps as a wide receiver, and Nakos reported he is open to being a quarterback or “athlete.”
While Castellanos played four seasons of football, he just gained a fifth after Judge Charlotte Sweeney in the U.S. District Court of Colorado granted a class-wide preliminary injunction against the NCAA that gave all 2022 high school recruits a fifth year of eligibility, after the NCAA originally did not include them in the new five-for-five eligibility guidelines. Castellanos was undrafted in the 2026 NFL Draft.
It seems unlikely that he could return to Tallahassee for a second season with the Seminoles, who have a full quarterback room. FSU added Ashton Daniels, Malachi Marshall, and Dean DeNobile out of the transfer portal, signed high school recruit Jaden O’Neal, and retained Kevin Sperry over the offseason. However, Castellanos could enter the transfer portal and play his fifth season at a new school, the fourth of his career.
Castellanos has played in 38 games during his time at FSU, Boston College, and UCF, throwing for 6,449 yards, 48 touchdowns, and 28 interceptions. He has also rushed for 1,984 yards and 24 touchdowns, averaging 4.3 yards per carry.
