Jul. 24—RAPID CITY, S.D. — The road to a South Dakota Class A Senior American Legion baseball championship begins Tuesday, July 28 in Rapid City, while the Class B Legion state tournament begins Friday, July 31 in Madison.
The Class A opening-round action features four games on Tuesday, July 28, with the double-elimination tournament continuing through Saturday, Aug. 1 at Fitzgerald Stadium in Rapid City. The championship is scheduled for 2 p.m. Central time Saturday, with a winner-take-all-second game slated for 30 minutes after the opener if the team emerging from the elimination bracket hands the winner’s bracket champion its first loss.
No. 2 Sioux Falls West Post 15 faces No. 8 Harrisburg Gold Post 45 in Tuesday’s first game at 11 a.m. Central time. The remaining first-round contests include No. 4 Brandon Valley Post 131 taking on Brookings Post 74 at 2 p.m. Central, followed by No. 3 Yankton Post 12 meeting No. 6 Rapid City Post 320 at 5 p.m. Central and top-seeded host Rapid City Post 22 faces off against No. 10 Watertown Post 17 at 8 p.m. Central to cap the first-round matchups on Tuesday, July 28.
In Class B, opening-round games feature four games on Friday, July 31, with the double-elimination tournament conditioning through Tuesday, Aug. 4 at Flynn Field in Madison. The championship is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 4, with a winner-take-all-second game slated for 60 minutes after the opener if the team emerging from the elimination bracket hands the winner’s bracket champion its first loss of the tournament.
Volga Post 114, the Region 6B champion, faces Region 2B champion Dell Rapids Post 65 in the opening game on Friday, July 31 at 10 a.m. The remaining first-round contests include Region 4B champion Parkston Post 194 taking on Belle Fourche Post 32, Region 7B champion, at approximately 12:30 p.m., followed by Region 1B champion Groton Post 39 meeting Region 5B champion Garretson at 5 p.m. and Region 8B champion Madison Post 25 faces off against Region 3B champion Dakota Valley Post 319 at approximately 7:30 p.m. to cap the first-round matchups in Class B on Friday, July 31.
