Exeter City captain Fitzwater extends deal to 2029

Exeter captain Jack Fitzwater has extended his contract with the League One side until the summer of 2029.
The 29-year-old centre-back took over as skipper in the summer after fellow defender Pierce Sweeney left the club.
Having joined the Grecians in the summer of 2023 from Scottish side Livingston, he has gone on to make 77 appearances and has been a key part of a defence that has only conceded a League Two-best six goals in 11 games.
Fitzwater has been a regular in the Exeter side since overcoming ulcerative colitis, which he was diagnosed with during his first season at St James Park.
He had previously been contracted to the club until next summer.

“I want to be a big part of the future and what the club is building, both on and off the pitch,” Fitzwater told the club website.
“I think it’s a good place of change right now, and there is only one place we want to go, and that’s forwards and upwards. I really want to be a big part of that.
“I’m captain of the club now as well, which comes with that added responsibility. Me and my wife are happy and settled in the area, and we’ve made Exeter our home. We absolutely love it down here.
“That’s a big thing for the next few years and is a massive part of it. If you’re happy off the pitch, then hopefully it helps you perform on the pitch as well.”
