At 20, Dylan Harper has become one of the most important players in the 2026 NBA Finals. The San Antonio Spurs‘ bench has not been at its best, but Harper does stand out among the backups.
He has been playing beyond his age because he is hitting crucial shots and playing elite defense against New York Knicks superstar Jalen Brunson. Harper is quite a competitor, but it seems there is a unique motivation hanging over his head.
Dylan Harper’s unique motivation because of his sister
Whenever the Spurs play a crucial game, Harper tends to turn to his family for motivation. Dylan’s sister, Mia, has become one of the most important motivators in his young career, which is paying off.
Mia has been calling on Dylan to perform well to help the Spurs. If the Spurs do not win, Mia would take Dylan’s dog away from him. That is such a unique motivation, but it seems to be working.

As an NBA player, having someone or something to come back home to is always a big deal. For Dylan, that is his dogs, so playfully threatening to take them away from him has motivated him to perform. That is why he has been phenomenal for the Spurs in the NBA Finals.
“If you lose this game, I’m gonna go to San Antonio and take your dogs. She loves dogs. I love my dogs. I’m playing as hard as I can,” Harper detailed about his conversation with his sister.
Moving forward, Dylan will keep playing at his peak level. He wants to keep pushing himself to be better, and he wants to keep his dogs around him.
