The Rockets‘ 2025-26 roster did not live up to the hype it had coming into the season, after an early exit in the postseason.
They have some work to do this summer to get back into the mix with contenders like the Spurs and Thunder in the West.
They might try to make a major move to shake things up, but smaller moves are important too, including one that we may see made at the very start of NBA free agency.
Details on a possible Marcus Smart contract with the Rockets revealed
Grant Afseth of Dallas Hoops Journal reported that the Rockets could look to reunite Marcus Smart with his former coach, Ime Udoka, this offseason.
The price tag is said to be around three years, $21 million.

Smart spent his first nine seasons in Boston, including a short stint when he was coached by Udoka.
He’s moved around the NBA in the past few years, but a three-year deal in Houston would give the 32-year-old some comfort in knowing he could have more of a long-term home for now.
Smart did grow up in Texas, so going to Houston wouldn’t be a major surprise, as he has roots there.
In the 2025-26 NBA season, Smart played 62 games with the Lakers, averaging 9.3 points, 3.0 assists and 1.4 steals.
