Crazy mock trade idea sends Anthony Davis to Golden State

Following Golden State’s loss to the Phoenix Suns in the NBA Play-In Tournament, rumors have surfaced about the Warriors’ offseason plans. After re-signing head coach Steve Kerr, Golden State is expected to build around former two-time MVP Stephen Curry the best they can.

That plan may include LeBron James, as Brett Siegel of Clutch Points reported that Curry plans to meet with James this summer to recruit him to join the Warriors. But another way Golden State could entice James would be by acquiring one of his favorite former teammates, Anthony Davis.

A recent mock trade from Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley proposed just that, as Buckley floated the idea of trading Jimmy Butler III, the No. 11 overall pick and a 2030 first-round pick swap to the Washington Wizards in exchange for Davis. Although this move could be risky for the Warriors considering Davis’ injury history, the same could’ve been said for acquiring Kristaps Porzingis last February, whose upside is lower than that of Davis’.

However, whether or not Washington is interested in giving up Davis for a package headlined by a late lottery pick after trading two first-round picks and more to acquire him last February remains to be seen. Although if Golden State were to bring in the 10-time All-Star and three-time blocks leader, it could certainly have an effect on their ability to sign James.
