Von Miller has spoken a lot over the past year about why he chose the Washington Commanders. During and after the season, Miller has made it clear that he could’ve also signed with the Seattle Seahawks, who would eventually win the Super Bowl.
Miller recently said he probably made the wrong decision.
After leading Washington with nine sacks last season, Miller’s contract ended. The 37-year-old Miller remains a free agent. He still plans on playing in 2026. It won’t be in Washington, as the Commanders completely revamped the position, signing Odafe Oweh, K’Lavon Chaisson and Charles Omenihu, and spent a draft pick on Joshua Josephs.
Miller signed with the Commanders last July, right before training camp began. So, could Miller sign with a new team this week?
Moe Moton of Bleacher Report recently named eight moves he wanted to see ahead of training camp, and he picked Miller to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Miller is open to a second stint with the Denver Broncos. Perhaps he would be willing to play under former Broncos head coach and defensive play-caller Vic Fangio. If so, the 14-year pro could bolster the Philadelphia Eagles’ outside linebacker group.
The Eagles acquired edge-rusher Jonathan Greenard from the Minnesota Vikings, but they don’t have a reliable pass-rusher on the opposite side, though Jalyx Hunt showed signs of promise last season. As a first-rounder from the 2023 draft, Nolan Smith Jr. has been a disappointment, logging just 10.5 sacks.
Miller can provide a much-needed pass-rushing boost and be a closer on the edge in Philadelphia.
If there is one thing that Philadelphia general manager Howie Roseman does, it is have plenty of pass rushers. Jonathan Greenard was the big offseason addition, but Miller could add depth and play limited snaps, something he was supposed to have done with the Commanders last season. However, injuries had him on the field for more snaps than anticipated.
If Miller signs with Philadelphia, no one in Washington will care. That’s not a personal shot at Miller, but the Commanders knew they needed to get younger and faster everywhere this offseason, especially at edge rusher. Miller played well in his one season with Washington, but the Commanders moved in another direction.
As for Miller, landing with the Eagles could give him another shot at a third Super Bowl ring.
