Collin Morikawa provides update on his back injury just one week before the U.S. Open

Collin Morikawa will tee it up for the first time in just under a month on the PGA Tour this week at the RBC Canadian Open.
Morikawa burst out of the blocks in 2026, winning for the first time since October 2023 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in February.
However, the 29-year-old came crashing back down to earth in March when he was forced to withdraw from The Players Championship after just one hole due to a problematic back.
Collin Morikawa has been struggling with that issue ever since then.
Fans and pundits were concerned to see Morikawa hobbling around Aronimink during the PGA Championship.
With just one week to go before the start of the U.S. Open, fans of Morikawa will be desperate to know how he’s feeling.
Is his back fine now and, more importantly, does he completely trust that it won’t give way on him again when he’s swinging?
Collin Morikawa provides injury update ahead of the Canadian Open
The man from Los Angeles addressed the media in Toronto on Wednesday afternoon.
Morikawa was asked by reporters about his preparation for the RBC Canadian Open this year.
And the 29-year-old shared a concerning update once again regarding his back problems.
“Not much, which is kind of good,“ he said.
“I left the PGA Championship uncomfortable in a way. I’ve been grinding this kind of back injury since THE PLAYERS. It still hadn’t felt that comfortable. So it was nice to take a full reset. And just focus on other things going on in life.
“I think after that I’ve just been able to relax a little bit more. There’s still a trust factor that I’m looking for that I’m trying to find this week, I think, going into tomorrow and into next week essentially. But it’s a lot better of a swing than I’ve been putting on and that’s for me a positive thing.
“I think when the body fully is able to kind of have that last little puzzle piece of fully relaxing, I think the game’s going to be exactly how I want. I still feel like I’m hit great shots when I need to. But just consistency-wise, I think if I can build that into this week it will be a great boost into next week.“
Collin Morikawa says how he honestly feels physically
The two-time major champion responded when asked how he is feeling physically right now.
“Yeah, no, I’m feeling better, like I said,“ Morikawa admitted.
“I think — I talked about it a few minutes ago, I wish the body was a little bit better, but it’s just building in this trust. It’s going to take some time.
“It’s going to be hopefully tomorrow where everything feels a little bit more relaxed. But I’m still a little bit on edge just because I don’t want it to happen again.
“I’m doing the right steps to prevent it, but when it happens like that it’s in a sense a little bit of trauma that you just kind of have to deal with.“
Collin Morikawa will be hoping to play golf at the RBC Canadian Open this week without feeling any pain or experiencing any psychological issues relating to his problem.
