PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks continue to lean on youth as they make roster moves ahead of their next series against the Washington Nationals.
The club announced it is promoting top infield prospect LuJames Groover from Triple-A Reno while optioning infielder Jose Fernandez and designating right-handed pitcher Taylor Rashi for assignment.
The move marks the latest example of Arizona’s willingness — and, to some extent, necessity — to turn to its farm system for reinforcements. Groover becomes the fourth position player prospect the Diamondbacks have called up this season, continuing the organization’s commitment to giving opportunities to young and emerging talent.

Groover, 24, has been one of the organization’s fastest-rising prospects since being selected in the second round of the 2023 MLB Draft. He is batting .322 this season with 39 RBIs and an .873 OPS.
But it’s not just Groover’s offensive numbers that stand out.
The infielder has impressed throughout his development not only at the plate but also in the field. He has shown defensive versatility during his time in the minors, and at first base this season, Groover has yet to commit an error through 134 innings.

Arizona has already turned to several young players this season in hopes of injecting energy and production into the lineup. The organization’s strategy reflects what has helped fuel its recent success: relying on homegrown talent to complement a core of established veterans.
With injuries and inconsistent performances affecting the roster throughout the season, the D-Backs have not hesitated to reward strong performances in the minor leagues. Groover’s promotion continues that trend and provides another opportunity for a young player to make an immediate impact at the major league level.

Fernandez heads back to Triple-A after a brief stint in the majors, though he made an impact in several key moments. Rashi, who debuted during the second half of last season, now enters the DFA process. The Diamondbacks will have seven days to trade him, release him or outright him to the minor leagues if he clears waivers.
As the season progresses, the D-Backs continue to look internally for help, and Groover is the latest prospect to get an opportunity to prove he belongs.
