The Atlanta Dream could be without one of the WNBA’s most productive players when they take the floor Saturday.
After suffering a lower-leg injury late in Thursday’s win over the Seattle Storm, Angel Reese has officially been listed as questionable for Atlanta’s road matchup against the Portland Fire. The designation immediately raises questions about the availability of the three-time All-Star, who has been one of the league’s premier rebounders and a driving force behind the Dream’s success this season.
With the WNBA All-Star break rapidly approaching, Atlanta now faces a difficult decision: allow its star forward time to recover or hope she can play through the injury as the team looks to continue building momentum.
Angel Reese suffered injury late against Seattle
The injury occurred during the closing moments of Atlanta’s victory over the Storm. Reese appeared to tweak her lower leg after going to the floor underneath the basket with just over a minute remaining. She was visibly limping as she made her way off the court with 1:19 left in the game, creating immediate concern for the Dream.
Following the contest, head coach Karl Smesko didn’t have many answers, saying Reese would undergo further evaluation before the team determined the severity of the injury.
Atlanta’s latest injury report has listed Reese as questionable with a lower-leg injury, leaving her status uncertain heading into Saturday afternoon.

Dream have relied heavily on Reese this season
Any absence would be significant. Reese has elevated her game during her first season in Atlanta, averaging a career-best 15.0 points while leading the WNBA with 11.7 rebounds per game. Her consistent production earned her a third consecutive All-Star selection and has helped stabilize the Dream throughout the season.
Beyond the numbers, Reese has become the emotional engine of Atlanta’s frontcourt. Whether she’s controlling the glass, defending multiple positions or creating second-chance opportunities, the Dream have leaned heavily on her presence. Her recent move into a larger role at center has only increased her importance.

Atlanta could lean on rookie if Reese can’t go
If Reese is ultimately unavailable, rookie Madina Okot would likely see increased minutes in the frontcourt. While Okot has shown flashes in limited opportunities, replacing Reese’s rebounding, physicality and offensive production would be an enormous challenge.
The timing also isn’t ideal. Atlanta recently snapped a five-game losing streak and is trying to regain momentum before the All-Star break. Facing a talented Portland squad without one of the league’s most productive forwards would make that task considerably more difficult.
The Dream will likely monitor Reese through pregame warmups before making a final decision. Until then, her official questionable designation leaves Atlanta waiting anxiously to see whether its biggest star will be available.
