UNC baseball not named top team in Omaha for College World Series

North Carolina punched its ticket to the College World Series for the second time in the past three seasons last weekend when they took down USC. After the Tar Heels lost game one, they rallied to win the next two including game three in walk-off fashion.
Now, they head to Omaha as one of eight teams trying to win it all over the next week and a half. But where do they rank heading into Omaha?
USA TODAY Sports has decided to re-rank all eight teams that are in Omaha after the completion of the super regional round. They have Georgia at No. 1 and Oklahoma at No. 2, meaning UNC has dropped to No. 3 since the latest rankings.
Here is what they said about the Tar Heels:
North Carolina weathered arguably the best pitching staff to make it to super regionals in USC, and faced a lot of adversity in the process. This is a flawed team, but it is experienced. The Tar Heels are making their second College World Series appearance in three years, the only team to return in that span. Gavin Gallaher was there in 2024, when they won their first game but dropped the next two.

UNC may have some flaws, mainly on offense if they go cold, but they do have one of the best pitching staffs going to Omaha. With the experience that they have in high-level games, that could be an advantage for them moving forward.
The Tar Heels and Ole Miss Rebels will meet on Friday night in the primetime slot.
