Michael Porter Jr. likely wasn’t overjoyed leaving the Denver Nuggets for the Brooklyn Nets last offseason.
Porter won a championship with the Nuggets in 2023 and likely enjoyed starting his NBA career in a competitive Western Conference franchise. Unfortunately, Denver elected to trade the Missouri product to the rebuilding Nets after six seasons, eliminating the possibility of him chasing a title in 2025-26.
Impressively, though, Porter made the best of his situation, averaging a career-high 24.2 points per game on 46.3% field goal shooting and 36.3% from three-point land as the Nets’ No. 1 scoring option.
According to Hoopshype’s Michael Scotto, the Golden State Warriors inquired about the 39.8% career three-point shooter earlier this season, but a deal never came to fruition.
“Coming off the best offensive season of his career, which drew All-Star consideration, Brooklyn Nets forward Michael Porter Jr. is entering the final year of his contract worth $40.81 million,” Scotto wrote Wednesday.
“The 6-foot-10 forward is eligible for an extension this summer and is also being monitored as a potential trade candidate by teams around the league.”
“Porter Jr., who turns 28 on June 29th, drew trade interest from teams, including the Golden State Warriors, as the deadline neared. The Warriors considered parting with a first-round pick for Porter Jr. hours before the deadline, league sources told HoopsHype.”
The Warriors’ pursuit of Porter shouldn’t stop after the 2025-26 season. Above-average floor spacing is the name of the game for the Warriors and has been for quite some time. Although Porter wouldn’t provide much defensively or as a ball-handler, he would give the Dubs a proven three-point shooter who deserves to be back with a franchise that wants to win a title in the immediate future.
Simply put, Porter’s potential offseason availability should be music to the Warriors’ ears.
