Vote for Section V's Girls Athlete of the Week for June 1-7 presented by Faber Builders

It’s time to take a look at the standout performers from Section V.

Your vote will determine who will be the Faber Builders Girls Sports Athlete of the Week for June 1-7. The players’ credentials are listed above the poll — which will be live until 8 p.m. Wednesday. The winner will be announced on our Instagram page Thursday morning.

The nominees are chosen by our sports reporters. If you would like to call attention to an athlete’s performance to be considered for the nomination, please email sports@democratandchronicle.com by 7 p.m. each Sunday. All athletes who play on Section V girls teams are eligible to be nominated.

Section V Athlete of the Week presented by Faber Builders.

Cailyn Cole

A junior at Webster Schroeder who is at the top of the Section V outdoor track and field 400-meter hurdles race season leaderboard by a wide margin. Cole finished the event in 1 minute, 1.31 seconds during the Section V Class A state qualifiers.

Raine Denny

Oakfield-Alabama softball player, a junior, hit two home runs and totaled three RBI during the Hornets’ 6-1, Class D regional playoff victory over Forestville. Denny, who was intentionally walked her third time at-bat, helped O-A become Section V’s only 2026 NYSPHSAA softball semifinalist.

Ty’Nique Edmunds

A hurdler on the Fairport outdoor track and field team, who ran the 100-meter version of the barrier races in 14.78 seconds during the Section V Class A state qualifiers. The junior’s time is the fastest of the season in Section V.

Carly Giebel

A senior at Brighton who won the shot put and discus throw events during the Section V outdoor track and field Class A State Qualifiers. Giebel is in the top two in the Section V season leaderboards for both events.

Alexis Gerig

She is the only girl in Section V outdoor track and field who has jumped higher than 12 feet in the pole vault this spring. Her top height this season is 12 feet-4 inches, a jump she produced at the Section V Class A state qualifiers June 4.

Annaleigh Green

A junior at Hilton who improved her Section V outdoor track and field season-best triple jump to 39 feet-6.50 inches during the Class A state qualifiers.

Ka’Mara Lane

A sophomore at Padilla at Franklin who won both the 100- and 200-meter dashes during the Section V outdoor track and field Class A State Qualifiers. Lane has been the fastest in Section V in the short sprints most of the season.

Ellis McIlhenney

A junior at Victor who ran 400-meter dash race in 55.34 seconds during the Section V outdoor track and field Class A State Qualifiers. The time is the fastest in Section V this spring.

A.J. Morgan

A junior with the Webster Schroeder outdoor track and field team who scored a Section V season-best 3,206 points in the pentathlon during the Class A state qualifiers June 4.

Meghan Quigley

Scored two touchdowns during the Penfield flag football team’s Class A state tournament semifinal game against Shaker. Quigley ran for a touchdown and caught a pass for another six points, giving the team 12 points during a 20-13 loss to Shaker.

Irene Sesnie

A junior at Honeoye Falls-Lima who ran the fastest 2,000-meter steeplechase in Section V this season She is now at the top of the section’s leaderboard for this race.

Jenna Swick

The season-best long jump in Section V outdoor track and field came from this freshman at Webster Schroeder. Swick jumped out to 19 feet-1 inch during the Class A state qualifiers.
