Liverpool are crying out for a new midfield maestro and he is here.
Andoni Iraola’s squad is in a real crisis when it comes to the midfield department. With Dominik Szoboszlai sidelined and Ryan Gravenberch having to play right-back, Iraola’s first reserve is James McConnell.
With all respect to McConnell, who will go onto have a successful career, he isn’t quite at the level Liverpool need him to be right now. This is a midfielder who struggled to get regular game time at Ajax.
Trey Nyoni is a fantastic option. He’s definitely ready to be starting games for the Reds. Alexis Mac Allister has always been world-class, too, and he’s showing that this season.
But Liverpool need more depth. Whether that’s as entering the market, or by promoting academy talent from within.
Liverpool’s plans to buy a midfielder in January
Julian Ward’s responsibility will be to address this midfield crisis in the January window. He has a lot of pressure on his hands to fix some of the mistakes his predecessor, Richard Hughes, made.
In terms of who the Reds could be targeting. Some of the players mentioned who are on Liverpool’s radar includes Lamine Camara.
The Reds have been scouting him for a long-time. They are well aware of the Senegalese international’s quality. Liverpool first wanted to sign him back in 2024, as an alternative to Martin Zubimendi but Arne Slot vetoed the move.
This summer a move came close for Camara and it’s expected Liverpool will return in the winter market.
Other players to keep an eye on includes Alex Scott as well, who is well liked by Iraola.
Liverpool’s new midfield maestro is Luca Eden
But while signing Camara or someone of his ilk is essential in the winter market, Liverpool also have a new midfield maestro.
Luca Eden has arrived on the scene. The 15-year-old has been a sensation this season for Liverpool making seven goal contributions in nine games.
His latest goal against Manchester United was an incredible hit from long-range. The type of goal you have seen Steven Gerrard score time and time again.
With moments like that, the comparisons won’t go away. Liverpool know they have an extremely talented player in Eden.
He’s a real midfield maestro, who can pull the strings in midfield and win games on his own. Eden is technically brilliant, he is hard and aggressive with his tackles and he has a great shot on him.
When you watch him play, you sit back and say: Liverpool have done it
