Los Angeles Rams left guard Steve Avila said avoiding self-inflicted mistakes is the key to getting the offense back on track after Monday’s 37-34 overtime loss to the Buffalo Bills.
The Rams fell to 2-3 despite forcing overtime at SoFi Stadium.
Sports Central LA took to X, formerly Twitter, to share Avila’s postgame comments to reporter Jaime Maggio about keeping the offense out of difficult down-and-distance situations.

“Yeah, it really just comes down to stop shooting ourselves in the foot. We got to stop putting ourselves behind the chains, you know. We saw what happened when we didn’t do that. I’d like to think that you know things would have gone the other way if if that didn’t happen. But you know, it’s football; things happen, and it’s all about how you respond. And I feel like we kind of responded well, you know, with stuff like that. And again, ultimately, we just came short.”

Los Angeles committed 11 penalties for 84 yards, undermining an offense that produced strong individual performances from quarterback Matthew Stafford and wide receiver Puka Nacua.
Stafford completed 40 of 54 passes for 383 yards and three touchdowns. Nacua caught a career-high 17 passes for 138 yards and a touchdown.
Kyren Williams scored on a 1-yard run with five seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime. The Rams then received another opportunity when Nate Landman forced a James Cook fumble and Aaron Donald recovered it.
That possession ended with Greg Rousseau blocking Harrison Mevis’ potential game-winning 48-yard field-goal attempt. Tyler Bass subsequently kicked a 45-yard field goal with 1:55 left in overtime to secure the Bills’ win.
The Rams remain below .500 after another loss, with Avila identifying cleaner execution as the offense’s priority.
