MLB magic numbers: Dodgers NL West kings again; Padres pulling away (9/17/26)

The Los Angeles Dodgers have been the team to be in the National League West for years and years, and once again no one was up for the challenge.
With an 8-2 win over the Reds on Thursday in Cincinnati, the Dodgers made five division titles in a row and 13 in 14 seasons since 2013.
With this amazing feat out of the way, they’ll look to clinch a first-round bye for a playoff run that they hope ends with a third World Series title in a row.
Elsewhere Thursday …
–The Padres blew out the Rockies 9-2 at Coors Field to build a four-game lead over the Diamondbacks for the last NL wild card. Arizona had Thursday off.
— The AL East-leading Rays’ lead over the second-place Yankees climbed to five games Thursday by virtue of a 10-1 win over the Athletics.
On Friday …
The Braves can clinch a playoff berth Friday with a win in Houston or if the Diamondbacks lose at home to the New York Yankees.
