Wi-Hi announces school's inaugural Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2026

Wicomico High School has a rich and storied athletic history throughout its over 100 years of existence. And recently, the school announced that they would be commemorating that history with the creation of their own Athletic Hall of Fame.
Wi-Hi announced that in the fall of 2026, the school will induct the inaugural class into its Athletic Hall of Fame. And they also announced the list of Wi-Hi sports figures who will be apart of the Class of 2026.
Here is the list of Wi-Hi sports figures who are set to be inducted into the school’s inaugural Athletic Hall of Fame Class this fall:
- Charles Berry (Football Coach)
- Warren Squires (Football and Basketball Coach)
- George Schoepf (Football, Track and Cross-Country Coach)
- Denver Knapp (Football, Wrestling, Baseball and Gymnastics Coach)
- Sam Seidel (Boys Basketball Coach and contributor to Wi-Hi Athletics)
- Mary Morling Troy (Girls Basketball and Field Hockey Coach)
- Jane Schiller (Basketball and Golf)
- First Wi-Hi Athlete to score 1,000 career points in basketball. Also a golf champion inducted into the Maryland Golf Hall of Fame.
- Butch Waller (Basketball, Baseball and Golf)
- Winningest public school boys basketball coach in Maryland history, state champion in 2002.
- Rocky Burnett (Basketball and Football)
- Bud Elzey (Baseball, Soccer and Basketball)
- Tony Gunther (Track and Field)
- Two-time Pole Vault State Champion
- Harris Strozier (Basketball)
- 1,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds
- Ed Lashley (Basketball and Baseball)
- Finished as school’s all-time leading scorer in basketball at the time.
- Joyce Rieben (Basketball)
- Finished career with 1151 career points, including a school record 42 points in a game.
- Brian Butler (Basketball)
- Finsihed as all-time leading boys basketball scorer ar the time with 1351 points.
Berry, Squires, Choepf, Knapp, Seidel, and Morling Troy will be inducted posthumously. The school’s inaugural hall of fame class will be inducted during the Wi-Hi Alumni Gala at the Wicomico Civic Center on Oct. 10.
Beginning in 2027, up to seven new inductees will be added each year. Nominations for the 2027 class begins in April.
