Anthony Chiang: LeBron today: “What’s most important is that I want to compete. I want to compete at a high level. I want to join a franchise that shares the same model as myself. That’s like practicing championship habits every day.”

More on LeBron James: Recent HoopsHype Rumors

Heat Central: Brian Windhorst says Miami makes even MORE sense for LeBron if he wants to play 2 more seasons: Windy: You know I’m from Cleveland you know my ties there. The more I’ve looked at this and the more I’ve had conversations, the more Miami makes sense to me. Now when I hear him thinking about a couple of years, it makes even more sense. I think that’s where he goes and fits. He can go there and have the ball. He also can go there and be protected on defense… I don’t see him playing with Donovan and Harden and being a clean fit. The fit in Miami makes more sense to me. I’ve come to that as I’ve watched this unfold the last 3 weeks and had a bunch of conversations Dave: I do think the point about the ball in his hands, that is the undisputed basketball fit in terms of the way we’ve seen him enjoy playing basketball (Via Hoop Collective) — 7/17/2026 x.com

Dru: “Pat Riley said, we landed one plane, now we got to land the other. I don’t think he was talking about KCP. I think they landed flight 7 today. I think they’d like to put No.6 back into circulation. Pat came out & let it be known. We’re not done. We want [LeBron].” @WindhorstESPN — 7/17/2026 x.com

LeBron James is part of this Fanatics event, so maybe he will share a decision soon. Where do you think he plays? Mario Chalmers: (laughs). “It’s hard to say. But I think it’s between Miami and Philly. Those are my two top choices.” — 7/17/2026 Fade Away World

Why those two? Chalmers: “I feel like both of those teams are in a good win-now situation. Miami has still added a couple of pieces. I feel like Golden State is a good option. But I just don’t see him staying in the West right now with the East wide open. That’s the only thing.” — 7/17/2026 Fade Away World

If he goes to Miami or Philly, what do you make of the dynamic and fit with each team? Chalmers: “With Philly, I see him fitting perfectly with Jaylen Brown, [Tyrese] Maxey, and [Joel] Embiid. You have a ‘Big 4’ there. ‘Bron can play in that 3 or 4 position and also take Maxey off the ball. That will help him grow and become a better scorer, better player, and better playmaker. With Miami, I see LeBron being a starting point guard with Bam and Giannis right there on the side. They just got to get a couple of more shooters. They did a good job of getting Tim [Hardaway Jr]. Bobby Portis was a good pickup. So I feel like Philly is a win-win right now. I think Miami is a win, if you add a couple of more pieces. Then everything else follows. You got to add more pieces to Golden State. You got to add more pieces to Cleveland. I feel like Philly has everything. Miami is the second-best choice.” — 7/17/2026 Fade Away World

Heat Central: Brian Windhorst on Pat Riley recruiting LeBron James: “The fact he is taking this opportunity while welcoming Giannis to appeal to LeBron is a indication of how badly the Heat want him…. The Heat make a compelling case. If LeBron wants to play the type of basketball that is more comfortable to him, where he has the ball, the Heat are the team that is the fit for that… if they want to play how he’s played for 23 years Miami makes sense plus Giannis and Bam provide the defensive cover. If he’s going to play multiple years It’d give the Heat to build this roster up. That’s a factor as well.” — 7/17/2026 x.com

Oh No He Didn’t: Dave McMenamin on when LeBron James could decide his next team: “When it comes to his family James said he has certainly weighing the thoughts of his soon to be 12 year old daughter Zhuri. He made sure to tell her before he was leaving the Lakers so she heard it from him first. And he told her that her feelings of the decision would mean a lot to him. I’m told that James is nearing that decision and folks around the league are hoping it comes as early as next week” — 7/17/2026 x.com

Heat Central: Brian Windhorst says the teams going after LeBron, believe Miami is the BEST basketball fit “If you look at Cleveland, the team the Cavs have is reminiscent of the Lakers team he’s leaving…. The Sixers have a number of ball handlers. The ball handling role is wide open in Miami. The history is there in Miami. The star power is there in Miami… As I’ve had conversations over the last few weeks, Miami continues to make more and more sense to me… The more you talk about this with NBA teams, even the teams that are recruiting LeBron, the team they see is the basketball fit, it’s Miami.” — 7/17/2026 x.com

In my exclusive deep dive earlier this week detailing The Architect vs. The Accelerant, I revealed that a potential pairing in the Twin Cities was being heavily bottlenecked because Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards had not yet extended a direct, formal line of communication to recruit James. That report immediately set the league’s baseline for Minnesota’s true pursuit. However, high-level sources intimately familiar with James’ camp have immediately moved to clear the air, reaching out directly to update my notebook and reveal that those initial hurdles have officially been cleared. According to top-tier institutional sources close to the situation, the connection between the two Olympic teammates has already been activated. “They telling you, Ant Edwards never reached out to him. That’s a lie,” a source close to the process tells me point-blank. “He did. He reached out to him and it was received.” — 7/17/2026 ScoopB.com
