Ex-Red Christian Encarnacion-Strand promoted to majors by Orioles

The Baltimore Oriolesannounced July 16 they promoted former Cincinnati Reds infielder Christian Encarnacion-Strand from Triple-A Norfolk, ahead of a three-game series at Houston.

Encarnacion-Strand was batting .273 with 17 home runs and an OPS of .863 in 257 plate appearances for the Tides this season.

In April, the Reds traded Encarnacion-Strand to the Orioles in exchange for cash considerations. Encarnacion-Strand had been designated for assignment by the Reds days earlier.

Encarnacion-Strand played for the Reds from 2023 to 2025. He batted .233 with 21 home runs in 501 plate appearances over parts of three seasons in Cincinnati.

Encarnacion-Strand played in just 29 games for the Reds in 2024 because he was hit on the wrist by then-Rangers pitcher and former Red Michael Lorenzen. He underwent surgery in June of that season.

The Reds acquired Encarnacion-Strand, Steve Hajjar and Spencer Steer from the Minnesota Twins in August 2022 for Tyler Mahle.

Cincinnati Reds infielder Christian Encarnacion-Strand (33) runs drills, Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2026, at the Cincinnati Reds player development complex in Goodyear, Ariz.
