What Lions training camp matchup will be the best?

We are less than two weeks away from Detroit Lions players reporting to training camp, which means we’re so close to football being back. It’s really happening, y’all. After an especially annoying offseason, we can officially bury the disappointing 2025 season and build toward what is hopefully going to be a thrilling Detroit Lions season.
That kicks off with training camp, one of my favorite times of the year. While the football may not count and it might be a little ugly, it’s the only time of year in which we watch full practices—and we get about 20 of them. It’s a wave of information about the talent level of these players, the scheme being installed in front of our eyes, and everything in between.
There are a ton of things to watch for this summer, be it camp battles for starting positions or how the rookie class looks. But in today’s Question of the Day, I want to take a slightly different approach to previewing training camp.
What matchup will be best to watch in Lions training camp?
My answer: I’m talking about two player who will commonly go against each other in practice. For example, Penei Sewell vs. Aidan Hutchinson is always a fun matchup to watch. But with Sewell moving to left tackle, we’ll probably see a little less of that this year.
However, that opens up a couple of really interesting opportunities for Detroit to pit All-Pro talent against blossoming rookies. What better way for first-round offensive tackle Blake Miller to grow than to go up against Hutchinson all camp. The same goes for second-round defensive end Derrick Moore and Sewell. Moore will be going up against the NFL’s best offensvie tackle early and often in August, and it’s only going to make him better.
Elsewhere, it’ll be interesting on both sides of the ball to see second-year receiver Isaac TeSlaa go up against whoever is outside cornerback No. 2—be it Rock Ya-Sin or Ennis Rakestraw. Many are anticipating a big year for TeSlaa, but there’s just as much intrigue in who will step up in the Lions’ secondary after Terrion Arnold’s waiving.
