Red Sox lineup: Rookie lefty in search of third straight win

CHICAGO — In the middle game of their series with the White Sox at Rate Field, the Red Sox will be looking to tie their season-best winning streak of five straight games Wednesday.

Boston is undefeated on its current three-city, nine-game road trip, having swept three in Anaheim before winning the series opener here Tuesday night. They’ve also won nine of their last 11 overall and 12 of their last 17 to, temporarily at least, climb out of the AL East cellar, moving a half-game ahead of last-place Baltimore.

With a win Wednesday, the Red Sox would improve to 8-7-1 in road series this year. The Sox currently sit three games over .500 (24-21).

The Red Sox will again be a man short on their active roster as Nate Eaton will serve the second game of his two-game ban for his involvement in the bench-clearing brawl on the last homestand.

The lineup Wednesday is fairly similar to the one the Red Sox used in the series opener. The changes: Masataka Yoshida is the DH, Carlos Narváez is behind the plate and Tsung-Che Cheng is at short

It’s clear now that Anthony Seigler has become the de facto regular second baseman. He’s again at the position and leading off. This is his 16th start in 17 games since being recalled from Worcester.

Meanwhile, starter Jake Bennett comes into Wednesday with a 1.78 ERA over his last four starts. Since being recalled on June 10, he’s tied for fifth among major league pitchers in WAR as determined by FanGraphs.
