Pistons reportedly pick up options for Daniss Jenkins, Tolu Smith

On the eve of free agency, the Detroit Pistons have committed to two of their own players for next season.

The Pistons picked up team options for Daniss Jenkins and Tolu Smith on Monday, June 29, according to Keith Smith of spotrac.com. Both players entered last season on two-way contracts before being promoted to standard deals during the regular season – Jenkins in February and Smith in April.

Jenkins, a 24-year-old guard, was one of the team’s biggest surprises. He secured a rotation role in November as the team withstood injuries to Jaden Ivey and Marcus Sasser, and he finished the season averaging 9.3 points and 3.9 rebounds while shooting 37.4% from 3 in 72 appearances. He remained in the rotation in the playoffs and was promoted to the starting lineup in the second round of the playoffs to alleviate ball-handling pressure from Cade Cunningham.

Smith averaged 3.7 points and 3.3 rebounds through 15 games. He scored a season-high 11 points against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Oct. 29 and contributed nine points, 14 rebounds and four blocks on the road against the Los Angeles Clippers Jan. 10.

Both players initially joined the Pistons and Motor City Cruise on two-way contracts in 2024-25.
