Steelers' Drew Allar reveals why Aaron Rodgers is perfect for his development

The Pittsburgh Steelers may have a match made in heaven in Aaron Rodgers and one of his understudies in rookie quarterback Drew Allar.

On Thursday, NFL reporter Eric Williams shared some interesting comments from Allar, specifically about how Rodgers can help his development and his fit within Mike McCarthy’s offensive scheme.

“I’m really excited to learn from him,” Allar said via Williams. “With him being in Coach McCarthy’s system in Green Bay, it’s beneficial because he knows the system inside and out, even though he hasn’t played in it in five or six years at this point. And just everything he’s going through in his career, playing in tens of thousands of snaps, how much experience and knowledge he has — the nuances of playing the position of quarterback, reading coverages, the defensive tendencies — any little thing I can pick up to help me process faster and be more accurate, I’m all in for it.”

The Steelers selected Allar with the 76th overall pick in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft, which left some surprised, as Will Howard was seemingly primed to be Rodgers’ successor.

Allar’s comments make it clear that he is already embracing the chance to learn behind Rodgers. And if Allar makes the most of the opportunity, he’ll have a real shot at competing with Howard for the starting job when Rodgers retires.
