Now, with the trade deadline approaching, Toronto is reportedly exploring one of the biggest moves imaginable. According to a report from TSN, the Blue Jays have expressed significant interest in acquiring Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal, the reigning back-to-back American League Cy Young Award winner.

Rotation Finally Getting Healthy
For the first time all season, Toronto’s projected top four starters are healthy and taking the mound together. The quartet of Dylan Cease, Kevin Gausman, Shane Bieber, and Trey Yesavage gives the Blue Jays one of the more talented rotations on paper.
However, there are still legitimate concerns surrounding the health of both Bieber and Yesavage, making additional depth a priority if Toronto hopes to make a serious postseason push. Rather than settling for a mid-level addition, the Blue Jays appear to be aiming much higher.
Skubal Would Be a Franchise-Changing Addition
If the Tigers decide to make Tarik Skubal available before the deadline, there likely won’t be a more coveted starting pitcher on the market. The left-hander has established himself as one of baseball’s premier aces, winning the American League Cy Young Award in back-to-back seasons.
His combination of power, command, and durability would immediately transform any rotation he joins. Adding Skubal wouldn’t simply improve Toronto’s pitching staff—it would dramatically change the outlook of the entire team.
A Dominant One-Two Combination
Pairing Skubal with Dylan Cease would give the Blue Jays what many would argue is the best one-two punch in the American League. With Gausman providing veteran stability and Bieber and Yesavage offering upside if healthy, Toronto would suddenly possess the type of rotation capable of matching up with anyone in a postseason series.
Of course, acquiring a pitcher of Skubal’s caliber would almost certainly require a significant package of prospects and young talent in return. Whether the Blue Jays are willing to pay that price remains to be seen. Still, the fact that Toronto has reportedly entered the conversation illustrates one thing: the organization believes it has a legitimate opportunity to contend this season.
