Nitish Kumar Reddy ruled out of T20I series against Ireland and England

NEW DELHI: India all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has been ruled out of the two-match T20I series against Ireland starting June 26 in Belfast, and the five T20Is against England which follow. It is learnt that Reddy’s left quadriceps injury, which kept him out of the second ODI against Afghanistan, has flared up and requires attention before he can take the field again. The exact timeline for his return is unknown at this stage.

Reddy was also picked for the ODI series against England and it remains to be seen whether the injury rules him out of that series too.

As TimesofIndia. com had earlier reported. Suryansh Shedge was front-runner to replace injured Reddy and the selectors have named him in both squads.

“The Men’s Selection Committee has named Suryansh Shedge as a replacement for Nitish Kumar Reddy in India’s squads for the upcoming T20I series against Ireland and England.

Nitish reported left quadriceps discomfort after the third ODI against Afghanistan on June 20. Following a medical assessment, the BCCI Medical Team has recommended a period of rehabilitation, ruling him out of both T20I series.

Suryansh has earned the call-up following a string of impressive performances for India A in the recently concluded tri-series in Sri Lanka. Batting in the middle order, the 23-year-old scored 147 runs in five matches and also chipped in with the ball, bowling 23 overs across the tournament.

“He was also one of the standout performers for Mumbai in their victorious Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy campaign in 2024-25, scoring 131 runs at a strike rate of 251.92 in the lower middle order,” read a BCCI media release.

The Indian team will leave in batches for the Ireland series. One batch, featuring Sanju Samson, Axar Patel, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Abhishek Sharma, Morne Morkel and T Dilip, left today from Chennai while some players are scheduled to leave tomorrow from Mumbai.

India’s updated squad for Ireland and England T20Is: Shreyas Iyer (Captain), Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson (WK), Ishan Kishan (WK), Shivam Dube, Tilak Varma (Vice-Captain), Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, Prince Yadav, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Prasidh Krishna.
