Julian Alvarez’s decision to drop a transfer bombshell after Argentina’s win over Austria at World Cup 2026 and say “a transfer is best for everyone” has got the gossip columns all excited.

Marca were quick to jump on board with a report that states that while Alvarez is “dreaming” of Barcelona he hasn’t ruled out actually signing for Real Madrid instead.

Alvarez also has interest from PSG and Arsenal but isn’t too keen on those moves as he wants to stay in La Liga. If he doesn’t go to Barca, Marca seem to think he wouldn’t mind ending up at the Santiago Bernabeu instead.

Real Madrid saw a €150 million offer for Alvarez rejected earlier this month, although that has largely been viewed as a political move by Florentino Perez rather than a strong desire to actually sign Alvarez.

Meanwhile, a second report from Marca claims that Barcelona won’t pay €150m for Alvarez. The club are expected to send in an improved bid of around €120m but that may be as high as they go.

Over at Cope, the word is that Atletico want to sell Alvarez to Arsenal for a fee of between  €40-60 million and with Viktor Gyokeres thrown into the deal as well.

The same report claims that Atletico are “prepared to keep Julián Álvarez on the team, even if he doesn’t play” if any offers this summer arrives that don’t meet their requirements.
