One of the bigger moves to watch in the Summer transfer window is that of Nottingham Forest‘s Elliott Anderson, who has been linked with a move to both sides of Manchester in recent days, with the transfer fee attached to the Three Lions midfielder being in the region of over £100 million.

It’s been apparent that the Cityzens have been leading the way in talks for Anderson, having sent two bids over to The City Ground, with the second being close to £121m, being outright rejected. With the transfer fee required to sign the Englishman starting to skyrocket, it’s becoming apparent that the Red Devils have made up their mind on their stance in the matter.

United walks away from the table

As reported by TEAMtalk’s Steve Pearson, the Red Devils have started to look elsewhere for potential transfers as a result of the ascending price tags and bids being submitted by the Noisy Neighbors over at the Etihad, as it doesn’t look like a sound deal for what they’re getting out of Anderson.

“However, while Man City are very much in the picture having already bid twice, recent reports stated Man Utd had got cold feet,” stated Pearson. “The reason why was simple – Man Utd didn’t believe the sky high cost of signing Anderson represented sound business.”

Looking at Anderson’s numbers from last year with Nottingham Forest, it’s proven that he’s a threat on both sides of the pitch, recording nine goal involvements, 53 interceptions, and 76 tackles won on the defensive end, making life difficult for opposing teams. Matching the Champions League experience that he brings to the table, something that always seems to help the Cityzens in their quest for a second European trophy, it’s no wonder that the Sky Blues are being sent deep into their pockets to afford him.

It’s definietly worth noting that it appears a large chunk of why the Red Devils aren’t satisfied paying that high of a fee is that they are still looking at players who are currently going for much less that Forest’s fee for Anderson, with the recent names they’ve been linked to being Borussia Dortmund’s Felix Nmecha, Real Madrid‘s wonderkid Endrick, as well as Crysencio Summerville.

Given that United are set to return to the Champions League for the first time in three seasons when the 2026-27 campaign rolls around, it’ll be news to see what they do in the summer transfer window, as they look to add some worthy talents to their ranks.
