Plymouth's Kirsten Simms goes No. 8 to Toronto in 2026 PWHL Draft

Plymouth native Kirsten Simms, who starred over four seasons at Wisconsin, now knows her destination in the Professional Women’s Hockey League: Toronto.

Simms was taken at No. 8 overall by the Toronto Sceptres in the 2026 PWHL Draft −held Wednesday, June 17, at the Fox Theater in Detroit − and was the fourth player selected from the defending national champions to open the draft, following defender Caroline Harvey at No. 1 (Vancouver), defender Laila Edwards at No. 4 (San Jose) and forward Lacey Eden at No. 5 (Las Vegas).

Gold medalist Kirsten Simms of Team USA celebrates after the medal ceremony for Women's Ice Hockey following the Women's Gold Medal match between the United States and Canada on day 13 of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic games at Milano Santagiulia Ice Hockey Arena in Milan on Feb. 19, 2026.

Simms put up 26 goals and 33 assists in 31 games with the Badgers in 2025-26, with a goal and a plus-2 rating in seven Olympic games. Her scoring touch is perhaps only matched by her swagger; when the Badgers, needing a tying goal, were awarded a penalty shot in the final seconds of the NCAA title game, she raised her hand when her coach asked the huddle, “Who wants it?” And then she scored with a ridiculous deke.
