49ers Kyle Shanahan talks publicly for the first time about his July 14 car accident
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan is speaking out for the first time since his July 14 accident.
Shanahan suffered a slew of injuries in the car accident including a broken nose, three broken ribs, a broken hand. He also needed over 40 stiches in his face and suffered a severe concussion
For the first time, he publicly talked about the accident in a Saturday, August 8 media appearance.

What Shanahan said
Shanahan looked well considering the injuries he suffered. He wore a baseball cap. His hand is casted. Shanahan was not wearing sunglasses.
He explained that his Tesla was on autopilot and traveling at 20 miles per hour at the time of the accident. Shanahan cannot explain if it malfunctioned or if it was accidentally turned off when he reached for his cell phone that fell into the backseat.
Shanahan added that he is familiar with autopilot and has used it for nine years. He shared that he feels “pretty stupid” about the whole thing.
Coach Shanahan plans to coach the 49ers NFL preseason opener on August 13 against the Tennessee Titans. He explained that his head is feeling “so much better” as the headaches and concussion-related symptoms subside.

Proud day for 49ers fans in Canton, Ohio
The winning legacy of the San Francisco 49ers, that Shanahan continues to pursue in real time, was on display in Canton, Ohio as legend Roger Craig was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
This honor was considered long overdue by many. Craig revealed a vascular dementia diagnosis in his prerecorded speech. He also posed for a photo with his fellow 49ers Hall of Famers. In the photo were quarterbacks Joe Montana, Steve Young, and wide receiver Jerry Rice among others.
