2027 kicker commits to Iowa State football

2027 kicker William Bowers committed to Iowa State on Sunday. The current Elizabethton Cyclone committed to the (Iowa State) Cyclones following a scholarship offer on June 2.

“I am blessed and thankful to receive a scholarship offer to play for the Iowa State Cyclones,” Bowers tweeted about the scholarship offer.

Bowers received offers from, in addition to Iowa State, Air Force, Army, Bowling Green, Navy and Memphis.

The six foot, 202 pound, kicker hails from Elizabethton, Tennessee, home of the Watauga Association. The Watauga Association, according to the official website of Elizabethton was the “first independent American settlement west of both the Eastern Continental Divide and the original thirteen British colonies in America.”

Elizabethton, much like his future home of Ames, has a historic bridge.

Bowers stats for the 2025 include: 58 touchbacks on 62 kickoffs, average kickoff 59.1 yards, 42-of-45 on points after touchdowns and 7-of-12 on field goals (long of 42 yards).

He was named to the TSWA Class 4A football All-State team following the 2025 season.
