Jalen Brunson has to make sure this artist is in his ear before every game.
Brunson is fresh off a historic accomplishment with the New York Knicks, as they clinched the franchise’s first NBA championship in 53 years. The Knicks star is letting fans into his pregame routine, which involves listening to this artist before each game.
“I listen to Justin Bieber right before I run out,” Brunson told Jimmy Fallon, via ESPN.
Fallon asked, “Every game?”
“Every game,” Brunson responded.
He shared that the routine began way before he was a part of the Knicks and that it actually started on the court of his alma mater, Villanova University.
“I started in college. My sister actually put me on to the Purpose album,” Brunson told Fallon. “The album is like, playing as I’m going to an NCAA Tournament game.”
After he clinched two titles for Villanova, one in 2016 and another in 2018, he added it as part of his routine.
“We end up winning, and then it happened again, so I was like ‘Oh, this might be a thing,'” Brunson said.
“Then we kept winning and winning, and we won a national championship,” Brunson continued. “And then my junior year, same thing. We won it all again. So I was like, ‘Oh, I got to keep this ritual for life.'”
After making a name for himself at Villanova, he is now cemented into Knicks history by bringing the NBA championship fans have been waiting for for over half a century. He was also honored as Finals MVP after defeating the San Antonio Spurs in Game 5. Brunson’s name also ranks among the greats such as Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, and Bob Pettit for his history-making 45-point game Finals appearance.
