Colorado Buffaloes coach and Hall of Fame defensive back Deion Sanders has been subpoenaed to testify in a trial involving his son, Shilo Sanders. However, it doesn’t sound like he’s all that worried about it.
As Sanders prepares for the upcoming season, he made it clear that the legal issues are not a concern and are nothing that he hasn’t dealt with in the past.
‘It is what it is’
During a press conference on Monday ahead of the upcoming college football season, Sanders downplayed any legal issues that he’s facing, saying, “When you’re ‘him,’ you get sued.”
“Do you think that’s my first subpoena?” Sanders told reporters on Monday, via the Associated Press. “When you have ‘it,’ when you’re ‘him,’ you get sued. You have off-the-field foolishness that if someone really sat down and explained it to you, you would say, ‘You’ve got to be kidding.’ But it is what it is.
“I don’t know anyone that’s a game-changer, a way-maker, that is not dealing with some type of lawsuit.”
Sanders Legal Troubles
It’s worth noting that Sanders isn’t a defendant in the upcoming trial involving Shilo Sanders. That trial is related to an $11.89 million default judgment from a 2015 school altercation and a related bankruptcy trustee dispute.
Deion, however, is facing legal troubles related to the development of his “Prime” logo.
According to a report from The Athletic, Deion was questioned under oath in late July in the claim filed by Alan Tipp, who claims that he designed the “Prime” logo in 2011 and was never fully and fairly compensated for it.
Tipp also alleges that Sanders and other defendants fraudulently induced him to relinquish any rights to his work with false promises.
In a court declaration filed earlier this month, however, Sanders claims that he used the logos before he worked with Tipp.
