Where does Auburn football's health stand entering preseason camp?

TAMPA, Fla. — With weeks to go until Auburn football begins its preseason camp, head coach Alex Golesh provided the latest injury updates on the Tigers ahead of SEC Media Days.

The program’s only set to have one player sidelined entering the season, and that’s after having several players on standby following spring practices,.

“The only guy that’s going to be out going into fall camp will be Devin Williams,” Golesh said Monday, July 20. “He had the ACL in the spring, and he’ll miss the year. Outside of that, we’re going to be healthy.”

Williams, who was a freshman last year, was sidelined with an ACL injury last season. Golesh also added that a “handful” of players will be limited entering camp, largely players with post-spring operations.

“We had three guys with shoulder (surgeries) that are all going to be cleared here this week, and we’re going to kind of take it easy on from a contact standpoint,” he said. “Outside of that, we’ve got everybody going into fall camp healthy, knock on wood. We’ve got this week and next week, but we’ll be healthy going in.”

While Golesh never specified which three players, several Tigers were dealing with injuries this offseason. Wide receiver Christian Neptune and safety Champ Anthony are expected to be ready for camp. The same goes for De’marcus Riddick, who was hampered with shoulder problems last fall.

Golesh also noted that this practice period will be significant for a trio of players — running back Bryson Washington, tight end Jonathan Echols and offensive lineman Stanton Ramil. Ramil was one Auburn player who was limited in the spring due to injury, and Echols and Washington were discussed largely discussed from a conditioning standpoint.

“Guys that didn’t go through spring, fall camp will be huge,” Golesh said. “You don’t got a lot of time. You’ve got essentially 11 practices until it’s kind of like, ‘Here we are. This is what we are.’”
