It looks like Lionel Messi and Argentina are hungry for more after winning the World Cup in 2022. They have battled to the quarterfinals yet again and are heavy favorites in their upcoming matchup against Switzerland.
We’ve already seen numerous upsets in these knockout rounds, though, with powerhouses like Germany, the Netherlands, and Portugal all getting eliminated early on. If Argentina doesn’t take Switzerland seriously, it could fall. Already this tournament it struggled to put away Cape Verde, needing extra time, then saw its run nearly end in the round of 16, needing heroics from Messi and company late in the second half to come back from a 2-0 deficit against Egypt.
Switzerland, meanwhile, needed PKs to take care of Colombia in the round of 16. With how well the Swiss have been playing defensively, recording two straight shutouts, there’s a good chance we could see PKs yet again to determine which of these teams heads to the semis.
