New England Patriots rookie edge rusher Gabe Jacas took part in his first training camp practice on Saturday.
To say he started on a high note would be an understatement, as he bowled over outside linebackers coach Mike Smith during an individual drill in a viral video from practice. There is hope that Jacas will bring a dominant physical presence on the edge for the Patriots.
Edge rusher has been viewed as one of the weakest positions for the team throughout the offseason. Their leading sack artist from last season, Harold Landry III, is still working his way back from a knee injury. The second-leading sack artist, K’Lavon Chaisson, is playing for the Washington Commanders.
So the team is hopeful that Jacas can pack a punch early.

Jacas was a limited participant at Saturday’s practice. It remains to be seen if he’ll have his first opportunity to compete in the team periods next week.
When healthy, Jacas can be a legitimate game-wrecker who tips the scales for the defense even further.
